How Can Armaggedon Save Your Business?

I am going to let you in on the greatest inside secret all marketers jealously keep to themselves. This secret will make you richer than you have ever imagined. Are you ready? Drumroll please.
People prefer to buy things they are emotionally attached to. There, I said it, it’s out in the open. Marketers beware, now everybody knows your secret.
Are you disappointed? Of course you are! This isn’t a secret, it’s the most obvious thing in the world. Everybody has known this for years. There are entire books and experiments devoted to this topic (although I don’t know why since I could have told them that for free). Emotions are what attach people to things.
Take Armageddon for example. You know, the movie with Bruce Willis and Ben Affleck. This is one of the best movies ever. And do you know why? Because it’s an emotional roller-coaster. You laugh, you cry, and best of all it has action. You come out of that movie feeling pumped and walking like you’re invincible.
This is how you have to make your customers feel about your product. They have to be excited about it. So how can you do this? Well here is a list of things you can do to start building your own “emotional relationship” with your clients:

Twitter

  • Engage your customers through Twitter.
  • Start polls about your products.
  • Tell people interesting stories about your product or your business.
  • Give away coupons and other types of offers
  • Give your customers interesting tips
  • Most importantly: Give your customers quality information.
Start a blog
  • People LOVE to comment on everything. They love to review stuff. Do you know why? Because they feel that finally someone is going to hear them out. Normally you wouldn’t hear this explanation but it’s the truth. Harness this love for attention that all of us have.
  • Again publish stories about you, your product, or your business.
Believe in something
  • Start helping out a charity organization. I think the best way to go is to pick only one cause and stick with it. Put all your eggs in one basket and help out that organization.
  • Organize 10k marathons in support of some cause.
  • Let people know of your green efforts.
There are many other things you can do to help you build a relationship with your customer. Let your inner salesman come out. I think the best way to get better ideas is to just think like the customer. Ask yourself, “What would I like my favorite product to have?” and start jotting down ideas.

Well that’s it for now.
